Delivering your baby by Caesarean Section

Delivering your baby by Caesarean Section

If you are an expecting mother set on a natural birth, finding out you might need a Caesarean section might make you feel a little bit disappointed. However, you do not need to stress. Dreams and visions of welcoming your new little bundle of joy can suddenly be replaced with worries about your surgery, about being stuck in the hospital longer than planned, and about a longer recovery.

What exactly can you expect during a caesarean section?

Any surgery can become stressful and should be taken seriously. However, with some mental and emotional preparation you can feel more relaxed if a caesarean is in order for you.

Some reasons why you could possibly need a caesarean section:

  • Certain medical conditions
  • Infections
  • Your baby’s health
  • A very large baby
  • Your weight
  • Twins or multiples
  • Placental problems
  • A Previous caesarean section

Some Reasons for an unscheduled caesarean section:

  • Labor just does not want to start
  • Labor starts to stall
  • Exhaustion or fetal distress
  • A Prolapsed umbilical cord
  • Uterine Rupture

Whether you are having a scheduled surgery or a last minute caesarean, the procedure is simply very straightforward. It is a quick surgery lasting about 15 minutes with 20 minutes to stitch you back up. Most hospitals make it very comfortable and family friendly as possible. You are usually awake, with your partner by your side. You will both get the chance to meet, greet, and cuddle and maybe even possibly breastfeed baby right after delivery.
